Trunk Spring
« on: April 28, 2007 - 06:41:29 PM »
Hi

Having bough a Trunk Spring ( torsion bar?)  for my 73 Cuda at Mopars at the Strips and carried it all the way back to England- I am having difficulty in working out how it fits

Anybody have any diagrams  or able to send me a pic please???

Thankyou

I think I'm having a problem with the term, "trunk spring."  The torsion bars are the three-foot long bars that keep the front of the car sprung (like on a Morris Minor). There are the leaf springs in back (also like a Morris) and then some people add the sway bars.  Here are a couple of pictures of an aftermarket sway bar set-up. The stock ones are different.

Just in case you do mean the trunk torsion rods, here are pics of mine. I have torsion rods on both sides, but your car might only have it on one side.

Just to add, even though there are 4 slots to place the rod in the trunk, each slot you move towards the rear bumper will stiffen the rod more.

Since this is so old, I hope that you got your measurement. I have a realted question that I htought this group might be able to help with. My rod is in (73 Barracuda with a single rod) and working, but rattles like the devil! Anyplace in particular that I should start looking? It really only happens while driving and I don't want to lie in the trunk with the wife driving. Also, there is a small metal tab in the center that my rod is running through - is it supposed to? I'll get some pictures tonight, but just wondering what others have. The body and chassis books don't show anything and no one posted a pic of the center section. Thanks
