Ignition problems
« on: May 31, 2008 - 10:05:45 PM »
Oh how I wish it could be simple.  I'm getting confused with my 5.7 Hemi Ignition system.  The computer needs a "Run" wire, so its hot when the ignition is on, and a "Start/Run" wire.  That wire needs 12v while cranking.  Here's where I'm confused.  The old ignition switch doesnt have a terminal for a run/start.  I've been told by 808cuda that he wired a relay in.  I tried, I cant figure it out.  Here's what I'm working with.  That box is your standard relay, the little squiggly is where you would energize the coil.

The IGN is on only when the switch is "on"  The ACC is on when you have the key one notch to the left or right.  Neither of those are hot when the key is in the START position.
The IGN2 and ST both are hot ONLY when the key is in the START position.  I have no friggin idea what the GRD is for, it has no continuity anywhere...

Is everyone else as confused as I am?  Can anyone play lets connect the terminal blades?  LOL.
I think I'm going to call the wiring harness place Monday.   :screwy:

can't do it without the parts in hand tinkering with it. BUT do you have the factory ballast resistor or coil + wires hanging around still?

IGN 1 & 2 are the starty & run wires , at the ballast they are dk blue & brown , same colors at the ign plug in under the dash as well , it will need to connect to both to start while cranking

It seems like You answered Your own question?

You need a Start /Run=IGN2/ST and "run"=IGN no?

I am confused.   I'm assuming the wiring is a bit different than the standard E-body here due to the truck You are putting it in right?

This is basically an aftermarket ignition kit, look around for a MSD or similar diagram if You can find one.

If you have a starter relay your half way there, an engineer in our local club having starting issues engineered around the factory wiring & should be adaptable to your situation.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.  I called the wiring harness place, and they gave me some kinda informative info.  Here, the yellow wire is a START wire, and the pink wire is a START/RUN wire.  Duh.  Not a RUN and START/RUN.  I ran a lead from the IGN to the IGN1, and put the pink wire on those.  Then I put the yellow wire on the ST terminal.  Turned the key, started right up.   :woo:

Thanks.
