543 Stroker Kit just got here...
« on: June 02, 2008 - 11:27:38 PM »
I was impressed. The parts were nice. However for you none believers my backups are one of my best friends the Quaility Engineer for an exhaust manufacturer and a guy that builds engines for a living Shaun Small at S&S Performance @ Rochester, IN.
Curtis didn't want to weigh anything until we calibrated my postage scale. He's bringing over sum weights that have been calibrated. He's right, calibrate your scale then record it, no he said, she said bull chit.
Then I'm gonna let Shaun look at em. Shaun builds motors for all the major 3. He doesn't push you into one part or another, but shows you what worked for his customers.
Walked into Shauns shop one day 2 engines ready to go home, one a 427 Chevy all aluminum, heads and block and the other a Hemi aluminum block and heads, he showed me the 2 bolts on the side.
He likes the belt timing system on the bigger engines, I've heard it's externally adjustable, gonna check with him for street engine, Jesel is near $700. and he likes the MSD products, don't we all?
Now I gotta remember the camera next trip at Shauns place...

I'm like left in awe by the guy who said well maybe you could return it (the 543 kit) for the 500 or 512 kit, Skeletoil's left hand gives him a gay salute. And his right hand too when he isn't tryin' to hold onto 2 lanes worth a car... Ok, Ok calm down, think about it, I'm gonna pull out the biggest, baddest motor I can afford and put in aleetle left turn f*g motor?...

Well as long as you get the heads/flow to match the cubes youll be alright I guess But i believe you are going source heads which aint enough flow for the 543 cubes..... but dont really understand your post....  good luck with the build maybe you will have better luck than this guy did.....

You have me intrigued................... What are the cylinder heads going to be and what intake are you planning on running on top...... :2thumbs:

I am very keen to see how this build up turns out.  I have my doubts that a standard 440 block will handle this much cubes and power to back it up, unless their is a he11 of a lot of extra bits put in to the standard block like some grout filling and steel caps with studs and a thick mains girdle..........  Can you emphasize what you will be doing to the block and if it will be a standard 440 block that you will be using please. :swaying:

If I remember from one of his other posts its a budget build and will be using the source heads.... however i complety agree with you hemiken the 543 isnt as good as a choice as the 500/512 and if he threw on somy indy-1's alot more upgrades would have needed done to the stock block etc cam and so on... and CP dont like MSD stuff.... Just my opinon but the 543 is not a good choice........  :2cents:

When I change my 499 with my current setup in Camquest 6 the HP drops 20 HP just from making it a 543 .......  :scared:

Wow, that is a fugly picture there Stroker. I think a main girdle would tend to strengthen it all up but I will also stick to my trusted advisors that a 451 is great for the street use while a 477 is ideal for street/strip. I might go 496 but nothing more than 500 for me. I am talking pump gas engines though, not high comp.

Is that a 4.5 bore piston you are wanting to install in a stock block?    If so, it WILL NOT LAST.   4.5 stroke?  External oil sump is required.  I must of missed another post somewhere on this topic :clueless:.  A 540 takes a big flowing head to do any kind of justice for the cubes.

Hey Alan,

It is a 4.350 - 4.380 bore size with a 4.5 stroke. :2thumbs:

oic  I came up with a 542.42736 cube. So it's a 542 .060 over with a 4.5 stroke. yeah a 572.5566 is 4.5x4.5.  A better running 540 is a 4.5 x 4.25= 540.74789 or a 541. This engine make a bunch better monster engine. But it also needs serious heads and cam to get up into 800 hp and up and last, I have never used 440 source for any parts. I see lots of people useing them. What brand pistons are those?  J&E?   I use J&E in everything. I'd have to have aluminum rods, but that's just me
