Launching on drag radials?
« on: June 07, 2008 - 07:14:21 AM »
Anyone running BFG drag radials or simliar what tire pressures do you run for best traction?I used to drop my regular BFG`s to around 15-16 psi but not sure where to start with the stickier drag radials? Also what burnout technique/how long?  :dunno:

It depends on side wall stiffness,if the side walls are too stiff and you go too low on pressure, they will "cup up" in the middle and have less of a tread contact pattern. Are they "wrinkle wall"?

I run the m/t drag radials, if you really heat them up they will work, they don't last long but they will keep you in a street car category. I have serious traction issues for the most part but if the track is prepped and you hold a good long warm up...6 seconds is about what I hold, I can get them to hook. Also I usually leave around 24 psi in them.

I always use that time honored tip of laying a short strip of rubber and then looking at it. If the edges are darker than the middle, let some air out. Once the burnout is the same darkness all the way through then you are pretty close. Last time I did that I had like 18 lbs. I am sure it depends on the car and weight and tire though.

295/65 on mine and I run them at 18 psi.

I drive into the box, spin them up shifting into third gear and allowing the car to exit the box and slowly bring the revs down until the car stops moving forward.

I sit in the stage lights between 2500-3000 rpm, then hammer it when the next to the last yellow comes on. Actually launches harder than the slicks I used to run and cut a full tenth off my 60 foot times.

I havent run the ET street radials yet but I was told by many people they need more air pressure than the et streets,..... I Spin the tires bad with 18 psi with et streets....

The BFG`s are pretty stiff so you can actually drive with them on the street.Looks like between 18-24 will be a good statring point and i`ll experiment from there. If I get caught doing burnouts on the street I`ll just tell the officer I was making sure my tires had full contact with the pavement for safety!  :smilielol:
