New Direct Connection valve covers
« on: June 09, 2008 - 01:33:46 PM »
Hi,
Has anyone used the new direct connection valve covers on a big block yet?
The reason I'm asking has to do with the size of the openings in the valve covers. Each valve cover looks like it has a hole in it about the size for a PCV grommet. So one valve cover can have a PCV valve hooked up to it, but the other one has an opening too small for a regular oil cap (at least that's how I see it). Maybe these valve covers require a special size oil cap? Maybe you can use a push-in style breather instead of an oil cap? I don't know.

Just so that you get an idea of the size of the openings, I'm adding a pic. See how small the opening is on the one valve cover shown? The other opening (not shown) is just as small.

The cover on the left seems to have a cover on the right side of it?   :clueless: Maybe the breather element hole is under it?   :1zhelp:

I'm clueless on this one.   :faint: On my covers, the breather is removed to add oil.  You can see in this cruddy pic, my PCV valve on the passenger's side, and my breather on the driver's side.

MEK,
Thanks for the pic of your engine. I think the openings in your Mopar valve covers must be the same as the Direct Connection covers. PCV valve in the rear of the right-hand cover and breather/oil cap in the front of the left-hand cover.
Do you happen to remember what the dia. is of the breather (where it pushes into the grommet)?

You do know that mopar offers a valve cover accessories kit that has several different grommets with it.

For what it's worth, I don't have a grommet where my breather is. There a rubber stem attached to the breather that I just force into the hole in the valve cover. It's nice and snug.

Most are 1.22" from what I have seen.  Take a look in a Summit catalog for common sizes.

Tom,

I was going to say mine was an inch and a quarter in diameter, but I didn't want to throw that out there without being sure.  :misbehaving:  Yes, my breather element is from Summit too.
