Russ:
The drawings were taken down from Barry's site, in compliance with a request from Chrysler.  Therefore, I sent you a PM to describe how we did my stripe, since the drawings are not public domain.   ;)

If I can answer any questions for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

When painting the stripe...should there be paint between the decklid and the quarter...What I mean is ....If you spray the stripe before the car is painted, and the decklid is on the car...would there be paint "down in the crack" between the decklid and the quarter panel?   is that the overspray area for this stripe? :dunno:

Barry (Alaskan TA) haspics of an original stripe. It is a green on green car. I have them but my computer is down. I have taken over my daughters computer until mine is fixed.

Here are some pics I got before painting mine.  Barry was one of the people who helped me, so this might be from him.  (So many great people helped me out, that I can't even remember who all I talked to).

But this is an original stripe from the factory (Yes, someone ordered this color combination)  :o

Despite all the measuring/calculating/interpreting, we really used these pictures to 'eyeball' the stripe on my car.  Especially the first picture below - You can see how the stripe sort of gently 'bends' along the quarter, and does not come to the front edge of that bumper notch.  My painter and I used this picture as the guide.  Every car was probably different (as they were back then), but this one just looked 'right' to me, and it is original.

Hope this helps...If you still have questions, just let us know.

When the factory was finished painting the stripe the rest of the car was still in primer, including the trunk drip rails. The stripe was masked off to the proper size and the car was painted. From what I have seen, when the trunk drip rails were painted with the rest of the car the overspray from the stripe was painted over.

70_Challenger. The pics are the ones from Barry I was looking for. Thanks.

Nothing like the manufacture not getting it correct.

This is from Mopar Performance news direct from Chrysler.

This very same photo is what inspired the builder of my last Challenger.

If someone has a 70 factory service manual it should tell under refinishing what black was used for the stripe.

 :iagree:

I meant to mention that...The article in MP News (attached above), while very helpful, does have that error about the 'satin' finish.

The factory paint codes and FSM are very clear that TX9 (gloss black) was used.
