Post a pic of your passenger side and drivers side inner fender. I am sure you have a 1971 car with a 1970 VIN attached to it.

Hopefully all you will need to do is get a State VIN and title for the car. Barry knows what he is doing and will give you the proper advice on how to get your car straightened out.

I think all I need to do is get my title transfered into my name. Virginia requires someone to inspect the car that is being restored before the car is restored.

OK, the good news first - the 1971 body does not come up as stolen.

But, since it was involved in a crime (VIN swap and titled that way) you do need to apply for a state issued VIN tag. The VA DMV should have the forms you need for that. If they do their job right they will confiscate the 1970 VIN tag as part of the vehicle inspection.
