SE wiring...Questions???
« on: July 01, 2008 - 06:02:20 PM »
Ok, im getting ready to re-wire my SE car. I have almost all the old wiring (rats got the rest) and have bought what ive noticed missing (low fuel relay, map light) Im wondering if theres anyone here that knows about all the SE specific wiring and can help me out. Im not 100% sure whats SE or regular Rallye in my harness. I will also be coverting everything over to a Ron Francis system, i will have an electrician friend coming over to help, but id like to have as much stuff layed out as possable for him. I know there are alot of SE owners on ths site, im new to all this and i hope someone can help. Thanks in advance-Aaron

me too, I know there is an engine harness you can buy, but do you just replace the bad wires from individual? or is there a harness from the dash back?

You can buy harnesses for the entire car, but it ain't cheap.  If you aren't comfortable with electrical work and have the money, it's likely the best way to go.

The SE harnesses are separate.  The FSM has the wiring diagrams.  Personally, I would never install anything but a factory harness in a car.

If i was keeping the car stock, thats the route i would go. But im planning on running too many items for a factory fuse block to handle. I am also keeping all my factory wiring as well, so in the future i can convert it all back to stock

 :bricks1:

I am wiring my SE harness right now...maybe i can help a little.
Overhead console...need a different domelight than stock...hard to find but wires into the red/yellow connector.
Low fuel relay (mounts to the right of your glovebox by your key in buzzer)...this harness runs the length of your dash and connects to the door ajar harness near your e-brake.  Low fuel relay also has to SPLICE into your dash harness for the fuel gage.
Door ajar harness connects between the low fuel relay and the overhead console harness.  You have two leads for your door ajar switches (which need to be installed perpendicular to the door strikers).  If you can find any door ajar switches, let me know (the one thing i don't have.
Overhead console harness runs from the drivers rear seat area (where it connects to the door ajar harness) up between your headliner shell to the control console on the overhead console.
The seat belt light on the overhead console is beyond me...no idea where it connects to (I hate the stinking thing in new cars, so aint gonna put it in this one).
If I am missing anything here, or if anyone knows better, please share, but this is how I am wiring it now. :woohoo:
hope this helps.

Excellent, that was alot of help. For some reason i figures that the 70 shop manual wouldn't have se wiring...i was wrong. I got everything organized and ready to roll. In fact just got the OH console installed, wired and ready to go. Im psyched for the rest of the interior....

in 70 the seat belt light was only a reminder- it operated just like the delay ing. light. only on for 10-20 secs!
