Cleaning out the sludge
«

I just bought an engine and it hasn't been run for quite a while.Pulling the distributer it has a bunch of dried sluge on it so I pulled the valve covers and it is the same way. Sould I just run it like this and change the oil often or can I pull the intake and pan off and spray some type of cleaner in it and let it run out the bottom? If I did this what would I use that would not harm any thing if a little didn't drain out? It is sitting on a trailer now so it wouldn't be a problem to do .Any one ever did this or any other suggestions? thanks
