What is the "normal" thickness of body panels? (Welding ?)

I'm teaching myself to weld.  I started practicing of 22g steel.  On the MIG site I've been asking questions, the common answer is 22g is too thin to do a good job on.

So, what is the thickness of common body panels?  Qtr panels, rear sail panel (between trunk and roof), fenders?

Hope I'm not in over my head!

Hi, most panels are 18 or 19 gauge.  A hint when spot welding, back up where you are welding with a 1/4 thick piece of copper.  It won't weld, and give short bursts with the mid, will puddle up pretty nicely.  Practice first, but been welding for many years and this is a nice trick to save from burning up sheetmetal. dave

You can also use a scrap piece of copper pipe pounded flat.
