~ PooooFFFFffffff....!
« on: June 18, 2008 - 10:29:57 AM »
Well, that was short lived. Went to take the Cuda out to the first car show last Sat and blew the trans.. :villagers:

At any event, I'm ready to just throw in a built semi-racing trans so I have no future problems. My question is.. what are some good deals out there for a built SB trans? What prices am I looking at. Also, do I need to change the tail shaft for my e-bod?

Thanks.. this really sucs.

Tactrans on the forum may be able to set you up! Also, Cope Racing comes highly recommended from a friend of mine. They built his 727, while not cheap since he got every bell and whistle...its about bullet-proof.

It's a 727 for a sb. The org was pulled befoe i got the car.. so it's some junker that I put a 2800 stall in. I haven't crawled under yet.. but after 3 quarts leaks profusely. While driving sounded like a bolt hit the frame of the car. ..i kept driving to the show.. then when i got there i realized I lost reverse and low gear. Aren't they on the same band?

Anyways, I'm just now looking for a built 727 so I can get her back on the raod.. figures I just got the car together after the paint is finished.. and this..

I live in Central NJ. been looking on ebag, but nothin yet.

If you still have 1st gear but no engine braking, then the link between the low reverse band and the servo arm fell out (I have had this happen before) The link will be in the pan probably, you can fix this without removing the trans, but you might have to remove the valve body depending on where the link ended up. Drop the pan and take a look. It usually falls out because the low reverse band is way out of adjustment. If you have no 1st gear at all, then the low roller went out or something else. TAC will chime in....

The sprag will not effect reverse. You definitely had something happen to the low/rev band.

Are you saying that you heard a pop, then it started leaking real bad and then you lost low and reverse?

Yes,if it broke the reverse band, the linkage will come down and put a dent in the pan. Yours probably punched a hole thru. I am assuming that you have a manual VB?

71fish,
About a week and half ago I thru out a complete SB 727 trans and stock convertor.
It needed to be gone thru, but I had no use for it and was tired of tripping over it.
SORRY MAN.....

depending on what you find when you drop the pan, I'm sure members here would be willing to donate parts if the low reverse link, apply arm etc. is damaged. I would definitely drop the pan before pulling the trans. I've had the same thing happen, pull the trans then find out I could have repaired it (my low/reverse band strut fell out because the band was so far out of adjustment) in the car.
