this might be a dumb question but seeing that I have never actually purchased a brand new car, I'm just wondering.....can a dealer ask 1000's of $ over invoice for a car? It certainly isn't ethical, but is it totally legal? Has anyone filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau when they find one of these dealers? I wonder if the BBB would investigate. I know if I was a car dealer I certainly wouldn't want that kind of exposure

You walk away. There will be dealers that charge well over Factory Invoice. MSRP on these cars is about 2k over factory. In an ideal world no dealers would charge over MSRP and it seems to be a common trend that they are sticking around or under MSRP on the 09's. Just make sure you do your research before you buy anything. Make sure you know exactly what you want.. options and all. The more you know the less they will try to walk all over you.

In the end when you finally get a quote you are more than welcome to come here with that quote and ask people what they think about the price your getting. I'm not sure if its legal to post a copy of your quote but you can post the breakdown of your order and price.

Best of luck in getting your car.

When I get home I'll post my order and all the options I got with the price so you can get an idea. As I said before I got 1300 under MSRP. In the end this will be a full production car so DON'T pay over MSRP and if you can try your best to find a dealer at least 500 under.

It's the same as anything, a dealer can ask for as much as anyone is willing to pay for it.  I don't think its necessarily unethical either, if would be unethical is it were, say, medicine.  If someone has 90K and they are willing to drop it for a car, that would normally sell for 40K, whose going to tell them they can't?

Let me know if you find an ethical car dealership.  I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn you might be interested in.

I'm only buying the bridge if I can get it under MSRP

Go to Kelley Blue Book. They have 09 pricing on all three models with options. And the 6-speeds are extra cost over automatics for the SRT-8 and R/T, according to KBB. That bites!!

Unless you have more money than good sense, I think if you wait a few months until the 09's are out on the street, discounts will come. Everything that is brand new and exciting is marked up until it isn't brand new anymore, and those with more money than good sense will pay stupid money for the first ones. I don't blame the dealers for marking them up- I blame the consumers who are willing pay over sticker.

Kind of a side note, but has anyone heard if they might be including the 6 speed in something like the Charger SRT8, now that it has been adapted for the Challenger, or is that just wishful thinking on my part?  I have nothing to base this thought on other than that I think it would be really cool to get one of those, or a 300C SRT with a 6 speed.  ANother option to give the Euro sport sedans a run for their money.

cooda... I think if you take the time to read most buyer experiences were all paying under MSRP. I don't think I have seen anyone paying any sort of markup on 09's... So far the ones that have gone for over MSRP are the limited 08's.

I'm all for you waiting and yea you probably can get one for cheaper be it new or used by doing that... However, I also don't think you have any right to knock the enthusiasm of those ordering them now simply because you don't share that same enthusiasm or excitement in getting a certain automobile. I'm sure anyone who gets this knows how things may turn and I don't think ANYONE is looking at this car as a financial investment when they consider buying one. Its about having fun not the money.

Best of luck to you if and when you decide to buy a Challenger.

It's posts like this that make me lose all faith in our education system.  This is basic economics that should have been taught in school.

MSRP stands for manufacturers SUGGESTED retail price.  It means exactly that - Dodge recommends that the dealers sell for a certain price.  That does not mean the dealer has to sell for that price.

Yes it is a 09 kenny knows the dealer.

09's aren't even in production, the 08's are still shipping from the assembly line, I bet he's made an honest mistake.

The 6spd's also have some required options added to them, another reason for a higher price.
