Remember that true "ghosting" is not done by colors, but by shades.
The typical way to ghost is with a candy color over a silver or gold flake base. You tape out your design - be it flames, stripes, etc - then apply one coat of candy color. Let it dry, remove the tape, then apply X number of coats to the entire vehicle. When you're done, the flame pattern has one less coat of color, making the metallic base more prominent. That's why ghost gradients are usually invisible at night, when there's less light to reflect off the metal flake.
I did it once with an R/C Nitro Car - on a Dodge Viper body. It was GORGEOUS. But a few too many curbs and flips and most of the paint flaked off the body and now it just looks awful.
