Intake change 340

With all of the intakes available, can one assume an increase in power by just bolting on a new one? For instance, I am considering putting on a edelbrock rpm intake. Does the carb have to match the intake and should the cam be matched as well. Is it p ossible to lose power by changing the intake alone?

The factory intake is pretty hard to beat on a stock engine. You probably will pick up a few hp, cerntainly won't lose any. There is one thing for sure, you will lose ~20 pounds off the front of you car.

the factory intakes work great , the RPM is an improvemnet in most cases , you need to match the powerband of the cam & intake for best results , a stock cam & a race intake will have powerbands at nowhere near the same RPM & you will not have much effective powerband , the same is true the opposite way , using a race cam & stock intake will not make you happy either

You'll probably pick up a tenth on your ET by just having the heat blocked to the Intake (The RPM has no heat passage) + the weight savings + the better design of the manifold. It's supposed to be 5hp better than the old LD-340 that was the best Intake for street 340's for decades. It's a worthwhile investment IMO.
