STUCK brake line fitting
« on: July 11, 2008 - 07:50:57 PM »
Can anyone help me with getting this F--king brake line fiting un-stuck? I have tried all week to get it loose. I have heated it up with a torch 12 times. No luck. I have used JB 80, and PB Blaster. This F--king thing is all that is holding me up from putting my HEMI in. I want to get the line-loc in while the engine is out of the car. I'm ready to cut the damn thing out and start over.  :stomp: Any suggestions would be appreciated! Dave

Are you using a real torch, or one of the little blue bottle jobs?  Use a real torch, get it red hot, it will come out.  It makes taking exhaust manifold studs out a piece of cake.

I'm surprised that a pair of vise grips aren't working.

I have used one of the liitle blue bottle jobs. The problem is it's so close to the inner fender well which I just re-painted. I have a thin piece of steel double rolled and a wet rag behind it, but it gets real hot real fast. Dave

That does complicate things, plus probably makes it more stressful when trying to wail on it with visegrips. :22yikes:

I suppose you would have if you could have, but can you remove it from the car?  Will the other fittings come loose?  Where does the line go that's stuck?

I would unscrew it from the inner fender and put a wrench on the valve body and vice grips on the fitting.  You can get replacement fittings at most auto parts stores, but you'll have to reflare the line.

Heat. Buy some header wrap as a heat shield.

That same issue has happend to me a few times. I used a small set of vise grips. Clamp down hard and twist away. Worked every time for me

I ran into this with my towncar. A400lb pig at the factory must have put his weight into it when the body was off.  I almost broke my hand. On one i cut it off and used a 6 point socket.  Vice grips on one. The bracket bends so i pried a bar against it opposte direction, but who cares about ford paint, so try like fy1 said.

I"d cut  it to get it in a vice and make up a new line. So easy, just non metric flare, no antilock. I went thru hell finding 2 different size adapters converting non metric into metric din bubble. One american brand leaked. Took a Chinese one to work.  Autozone had crap for adapters, advanced auto had them.  Don"t waste another week, cut it out if you have too.

Vice grips still should get it. Have someone keep the valve from twisting in the same direction as the vicegrip.

cut the line flush with the fitting and the tap a socket on there smaller than original size and tighten first then loosen.I would also tap on the fitting with the hammer before putting the socket on it.

cut it. You can't leave that chewed up fitting on their anyway. The car is too nice and it will be impossible to tighten it back up anyway.

Sorry to be late to the party,

But as Moparal stated, vise-grips work wonders after a little heat. I had the same problem once(thanks Chryco for the suggestion).
