Picked up a 2008 Challenger....
« on: July 02, 2008 - 08:33:41 PM »
Well, I went with my buddy to pick his up.    :woohoo:  He wanted me to drive it 1st, but there's no way I was going to mess his car up before he drove it.  So I took it out after he did!   :2thumbs:  You can really feel how heavy the car is, but for its size it still handled great and the 6.1 really moved when you asked it to.   The exhaust HAS to be allowed to breath.  You can hear that it really wants to rumble if you just get a descent cat back on it.

Here's some pics.....

Oh Ya, it has the coolest thing built in the dash.  This probably old news to most, but it keeps track of your 0-60 times, quarter mile and g force.  TOO COOL!

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

That's cool Cody, thanks for sharing. When they built it I was real curious to see how they looked on eBay and the photos real users post, not the "hyped up" corny ass advertising images. They look real nice in real life situations. The SRT8 cars (300C, Jeep, Charger, Challenger, etc) all have that inbuilt performance readout and vehicle data, it's bloody cool alright. I didn't realise they had a push button starter though, again, super cool.

They do weigh a bit, do they weigh the same as the 300c SRT8s? I doubt I'll get a chance to drive a new Challenger, not any time soon anyhow but have driven the 300C SRT8 and you can definitely feel the weight but hoof it and the car feels light as, nimble and grunty, I still feel it can hold it's own against pretty much any other at highway speeds, may not beat it but you'd have trouble losing it. This is stock to (apart from a CAI).

It really makes me want to get one!  It was really a nice riding car.  I don't know how much it weights, but it felt like it was at least 2 tons.

I grabbed a 2009 brochure while I was there and it looks like the Hemi Orange and B5 blue will be offered again in 2009 , but in "limited availability".  Torred (looks like EF5 to me) would be another great color on this car.

In 2009 they have Sooooo many neat options.  From hoods to stripes to great colors.  They even have the "Track Pak" again!  But the one I didn't really understand was the "SPRING PACKAGE".  It is only available in B5 Blue and on the SRT8 cars.  What does that package have?

So in 2009.  The base models are all SE (All V6's autos), then the next group up is the R/T (All 5.7 Hemi's 6 speeds & Autos), than the SRT8 (All 6.1 Hemi's in 6 Speeds & Autos).  Funny how we all wish we could go back and order a Hemi...   But just like the days of old... man does it really add to the bottom line of the price of the car!

So the prices in 2009 range from $21,995 for the SE to over $40,000 for the SRT.

How does that compare to the prices back in 1970?  Was the Hemi twice as much as the slant 6?

Daytona - careful with that feature.  Chrysler is having a LOT of problems with the MyGig drives.  I had to warranty out 3 units for the SAME GUY.

As soon as you get it all set up, it'll crash.  Last I heard, Chrysler was at a complete loss as to what the problem was.

Thanks for the specs and info Cody. I wonder if we buy a few Hemis and store them in a shed for 35 years we'll be millionaires? Doubt it, unlike the old cars, all these cars have Hemis. If anything, the SE V6 cars a more rare, just not as fun. :grinno:

Is it using Microsoft to run the system, like the Fords do?  If so then there's really no mystery... ; )
