Need some Help Electronic ignition
« on: July 23, 2008 - 03:24:01 PM »
My 70 Challenger is not keeping the battery charged. The alternator does not seem to be working. I have some questions that might be the problem.

Are there 2 kinds of ballast resistors ? one for electronic ignition , one for points?

Are there two kinds of ignition coils? one for elctronic ignition , one for points?

Could this be the problem?

thanks

I know that they list different coils but these ignition parts would have nothing to do with the charging system........can you charge your battery from another source?

Tech writeup on diagnosing....I would just take the alternator to a parts house that can bench test, if it shows bad pull the brushes & see if they are shot, if so replace them..if it tests good all that's left is the voltage regulator or bad wires.
