    340 acting up!

    I kicked it down and it started to backfire at high rpm. It died in my driveway, and liked to never have started. The plugs were dry, I cracked the fuel line and it plenty of gas trying to escape. I poured gas in the carb and nothing. I waited 15 minutes and it started like nothing was wrong? I did notice I had to tighten the hot battery cable due to all of the cranking. Is it the ignition module? It still has the tan original on it?  :villagers:

    Look under the cap for crack lines , carbon build up, or a worn rotor if it is not water in the fuel or something like that. See if the plug wires are close to exhaust too

    Next time, look down the throat of your carb before you try to restart it. If you pump the pedal a couple of times, the throat should be wet with gas. That will eliminate a fuel delivery problem. Then we move onto spark...

    Could be trash on the needle & seat in your carb, or the coil starting to go. Just for the heck of it, you might want to pull your coil wire and look for fluid seepage (which would indicate it's bad, but it can go bad without leaking fluid). Even a dirty fuel filter can give sporadic symptoms with a little piece of trash that moves back & forth inside the filter that can momentarily block flow. Just a few thoughts. Lets us know what you find!! Before it's done we'll have you replacing the headlight fluid!!  :roflsmiley: Just kiddin' gremlins are no fun!! :pullinghair:

    Was the engine hot? Had you been running for very long?  Electrical issues with any part could be caused by heat, my first thought is the coil.

    You were right on ! I used your test diagram and the coil tested bad. I had an old one laying around and she fired right up!    :burnout: :burnout:  I never suspected the coil since I only have about 300 miles on the bad one.   :dunno:

    Yes, stock wiring, the bad coil was an autozone chrome high performance coil. I just put the stocker back on.

     Glad you got it figured out.  :thumbsup: I guess we need to watch some of those aftermarket coils. :eek7:
