11 or 10 inch rear brakes?
« on: July 24, 2008 - 11:28:10 PM »
70 6 pk cars with front discs come with 10 right?  all drum were 11" rear?     I got both. I am wanting to keep the 10" since it is less recipricating weight. The car stops good.  Which would you do? I have both types and the 11x2.5 drums came off of a 70 cuda 440

I think moparts were talking about this same thing last week. I think they said it came with 10 inch r drums. I'd use the 10's especially where it stops good. I will check my 70 manual and see what it says.

My 71 barracuda vert came with 11 inch drums all around.  I will be installing a Dana 60 that currently has 10 inch drums.  I had planned on adding front disks (from a 73 cuda) and swapping the 11 inch drums over to the Dana.  Is this a wrong approach?

With todays texting, latte sipping, make up applying drivers you should give your ride the best brakes. You car will never stop as good as the idiots in front of you. If you have front drums you are at a huge disadvantage Larry. I know originality is one thing but think about that time when your caught driving in the rain and the person with ABS in front of you slams on the brakes and all you can do is pray.

sounds like the way to go Larry front disc & the 11" or 10 " drums , the rear drums are limited by the proportioning valve anyway so it should stop equally well with either

Thank you - as far as originally goes, I am/willbe making a clone 440-6.  Been sitting since 1985 and my detached garage is almost done.

I stuck with the 11"x2.5" rear drums.  They are finned for cooling and to help keep it round. I have 2 cars now with the 15"x 10" wheels with bigger rubber so I agree with the "you can't have too much brakes" saying.
