71 Cuda - Bumper Jack Restoration
« on: June 30, 2005 - 08:09:48 AM »
I have what I believe is a 71 date coded bumper jack for a Cuda. Have a few questions........my mast is the tubular type, is that the correct one? Or, is it supposed to be the solid mast with the "teeth"? Either way, it's the one I'll be using. Also, what color is the mast supposed to be, silver or gold? I'm going to zinc plate the mast and want to get the correct color. Where is the best place to get one of those inflater bottles? Thanks.

Well, up to 69 they used the "T" shaped, so id say you have at least the right "type" of base.

Thats about all i can answer though..... Not sure where the date codes are, and I do beleive they were Cad with Grey jack hardware.....

My '72 came with a jack that has grey hardware and the mast has what is left of a cad coating; not sure if it is the original one though.   I have seen a vendor on eBay selling "restored" jacks for these cars but the hardware is gloss back and the masts appear to be bright silver paint; that seems wrong to me.   :clueless:

Gentlemen,
The 70 Cuda convertible I'm just finishing up has had the same owner since new and our shop was given the complete car. I just pulled his original jack assembly from storage today (timely, eh?). The base and the jacking mechanism have a light grey paint still on them from the factory. The mast is the T shape (viewed from one end) and its toothed. It doesn't appear to be painted, but rather a light grey (Cadmium/Zinc?) plating. Sorry, I can't help with the inflator bottle.

Tube style is correct for '71.  It is finished in gold cad.  Mechanism, hook and base are dove gray.  Wrench is black.  Date code is on mechanism rivet.  There was a date coded bottle vendor on eBay for a long time selling them for $105 but I don't have his info and I don't see him on there now.
