I'm not much help but I left mine out when I replaced my carpet earlier this year.  I don't mind listening to the engine (I left my radio out, also), and its just one more thing to trap moisture and start rust if it ever got wet inside.

Cut pieces of thin cardboard for templates (cardboard like on a cereal box) then once you are happy transfer the templates to the sound deadener. This stuff sticks like shi'ite to a blanket so once you stick it down she is hard to lift. Just butt the edges together and don't worry too much about covering every square inch. Do the floors then do the tranny hump separately. You will be surprosed of the difference in sound. I also did under my headliner when it was out. Roof just has a clunk to it now when you tap on it with a knuckle. BTW the sound deadener I used (B-Quiet, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada) is waterproof and won't hold moisture at all.

for what it's worth....
i used the sound deadener...it fits ok, but you really need to use a hair dryer to heat it up and get it to conform to the floor.
I also used Lizard Skin (you can get it through summitracing)...it sprays on and you can also sound deaden the interior of the doors and behind the rear seat panels...it is not messy at all, and you can pretty much spray it everywhere you want with a good amount of thickness and control...i used it all up to my firewall and back to under the rear seat.

might want to take a look at it.

hope this helps!

Thanks guys,

I will see how it goies and may use an aftermarket sound deadner in the future.

I forgot where I got my sound deadner, but it was already shaped and cut.  It was pretty obvious where everything went.  Did you get pre-cut or just a flat roll of insulation?  I put it on the floor boards and the tranny tunnel and then used Reflectix for heat on top and everywhere.

BTW, I used lizard skin on my Firebird, it feels cooler, but didn't do jack for the sound.

purplehrtchallenger.  I used some stuff called second skin, similar to lizard skin, along with the foil backed sound deadener.  Wow what a difference it made in the 66 fastback mustang that i installed it in.  I spayed it on the ientire interior and the undercarriage.  Before I flet as though I was driving around in a tin can.  I plan to do the same thing to my cuda project.
