A Sad Day in my Automotive History
« on: August 04, 2008 - 08:04:25 AM »
The realization that your first car is getting old....

This is actually from last weekend - she clicked over on my way back to Ohio.  I pulled over and took a picture from my cell phone to document the milestone, then gave her a nice little burnout and ran 'er up through the gears.

I can say this - for a car with 100,000 miles on 'er, she still runs the quarter just as fast if not faster than the day I bought 'er.  She's had nothing but Mobil 1 oil changes, Mobil 1 Synthetic tranny fluid, and I never babied her.  She still spins up like a top.  I realize she's nearly 80% mitsubishi, but she'll always be my little Dodge.

I bought her myself - negotiated the deal and signed the papers when I was 22.  She's my first baby.  :)

I think that's a happy day in your automotive history, though 100k isn't what it used to be - these days, that's barely broke in.  That's a good looking Stratus.  And 80% Mitsubishi?  I don't think so.  :2thumbs:

Eh I've got the window sticker - the percentage of imported parts is almost sad.  Even the Dodge wheels have Mitsubishi stamps behind the spokes.  The only good thing is that it was still built in Normal, IL.

Congrats on the milestone.  Just wanted to worn you about one thing.  Make sure you have the timing belt replaced soon if you have not already.  I have seen a number of these cars on craiglist where the timing belt broke and the valves were destroyed.  Good luck with hitting 200,000   :2thumbs:

Timing Belt and all pulleys was replaced about 4,000 miles ago.  Also replaced was the clutch, plugs, wires, serp belt, and had the fuel system cleaned.  Bill - $2,300!!!   :22yikes:

I'd have done it myself if I still had access to a shop.

I think the idle-air-control motor is next, and then she'll probably need an alternator.  Starter is new too - everything else seems to be running fine...  *knocks ferociously on wood.*  My wife's car just took a new alternator last week - I don't need any more car repair bills!!     :bricks1:

Thanks for the thought, jacksboys.

Nice Stratus, always loved the looks of those cars.  The Mitsubishi part scares me.  I'll never own a Mitsubishi built car again.   ::)

Reminds me of when the Challenger turned 100,000 miles... long time ago though and I wouldn't have thought of taking a picture (or even having a camera with me all the time to do so; Las Vegas sun was bad for Pentax Spotmatic F's and film both)

Yes it is a sad affair that 90% of all frauds sold are still on the road, the other 10% made it home..   :roflsmiley:   :stirpot:
