What's a good price on an average rebuildable 340 engine?

I just saw a torn down 340 for $1500.  I thought it was steep, even for an unmolested short block+heads+steel crank.  He's been trying to sell it for almost 4 monthss.  I think it depends on how you qualify rebuildable... can I replace the rings and gaskets and go?  will it need a new cam, lifters?  Is it bored out, ported?  What kind of heads?

Doesn't have to have hi-po heads, I may have the hookup on some good small block heads. Mainly a good block and rotating assembly (a builder). Trying to get an idea for what the market is fetching. I would like to set one back for a future project
