540 fuel consumtion

Can anybody tell me what fuel consuption is to be expected from a 540cui mopar B1 engine?  the motor is in a b-body hooked up to a 727 and a dana 4.10 rear.  estimated horsepower; 750/800...
If one uses this car for cruizin... and an occational earthquake, what would fuelconsuption look like instead of using the same trans and rearend
hooked up to a stock 440...?

Umm I'd say somewhere between bad and horrible.  People with 540s don't care about mileage.

   I won`t buy it....I`ve got my hands full with my 440...just asking for a friend.   But .... with fuel costs at about 9.50 a gallon I still think it does make sense to ask this question...
Sure 540 `s are thirsty but a 440 is thirsty too.  but if a 540 takes twice as much fuel ....

I hear ya.  I think your buddy and you are just wondering how much it will take compared to a stock 440, right?  Valid question. 

I'd guess take half of what a 440 uses, and add it on to the total.  So like 1.5 times the fuel.  Just a wild guess.

Well, 800 hp is up there in NASCAR territory, only with a big block.  Those guys get about 4 mpg at 180 mph, but in a much more aerodynamic body and with ALL the best flow bench testing, carb tweeking, thermal coatings, etc.  I'd be surprised if it made it to 10 mpg - I'd expect about 7.  But like Carl said - if he has to ask the question, why is he buying it anyway?  At $9.50/gallon, it should be toy.  Mine's a toy (well, will be) at $3.75/gallon.  That's why I have the UAV.

You can expect about 80 miles per tankfull if you drive it carefully

We need Oldschool to speak up.  His car would probably get the same as the 540.  My guess is in the 3 to 5 MPG range.  Where a stock to mild 440 would be in the 10 to 12 MPG range.

It also depends on how heavy your right foot is.. and how many carbs you have.

iot can be tuned to get milage & if the driver can keep out of the loud pedal but it still really depends on the build of the engine too , it could easily see as low as 1/2 mile / gal up to mid teens

I will be about 750HP with my new indy setup and my full port eddy rpm setup I got 2.1 miles to the gallon about 40 miles to the tank.... 

but who cares..... 

the reason for my crappy mileage is because i was down in 1 all the time with the MVB up on the converter wait for takers..... 

but like I said... dont care about gas....
