Tuff Wheel Cleaning... Pics!

I picked up at Tuff Wheel at the Mopars on the Mississippi show/swap meet. Its in pretty good shape and was a GREAT price IMO (ol'BIGS didn't even haggle!).  But I would like to do a little cleaning...

Foam grip... any suggestions, that wont eat the foam???

Spokes.... minimal rust pits... What did you clean that with... (fine steel wool??)  Did anyone use any kind of sealer to keep it nice afterwords?? (clear spray??)

We used to use a foamy spray called "Tuff Stuff" (no relation to the wheel) for vinyl cleaning; I never used it on vinyl over foam though.  Never caused damage on my car and did a pretty good job cleaning used with a soft toothbrush.

I wonder if the cleaner they sell for plastic dying (SEM?) that some have used to dye door panels would be appropriate?

Now who can tell me about cleaning and sealing the spokes???

I have used a clear coating from Eastwood (Nyalic or something like that) to keep those types of parts nice.  It has never yellowed on me like a clear lacquer does.  I am not sure about cleaning the wheel, but super fine steel wool seems reasonable.  Maybe try it on the backside under the cap first.

The Tuff wheel, rimblow, 68-70 A/B-body and the 72-74 E-body wheels all have a satin chrome finish that will clean up well with #0000 steel wool as long as the rust is minimal. If it's bubbling or pitted, it's too late. After cleaning with the steel wool, use a good metal polish like Wenol or Simi-chrome and apply by hand to protect it from the elements. Never use a power buffer or any type of power tool on the spokes. It will make them too shiney.

This one just has some minor pits close to the end of the spokes and in the slotts. Would Wenol seal it? I guess once it's cleaned I want to keep it from coming back!

Wenol will protect it from what you will be subjecting it to, unless you're driving in the rain with the top down all the time The rust is from being neglected for years, stored in bad weather, rescued from the bone yard etc.

You may have to polish it again occaisionally. It's not a permanent sealer. I never was a big believer of clear on top of metal. It always seems to yellow over time.
