It is possible that you need to do a little "tweaking" to the accelerator pump circuit. I would be willing to bet that your throttle shaft is a little loose in the throttle body (base) of the carb. If you can wiggle it in its bore, it is loose, and leaks air there. It doesn't have to be expensive or a death warrant, though- often, small leaks can be covered by the tuning of the carburetor. Increasing the stroke of the accelerator pump will give it more fuel, and might take away a lean condition hesitation that occurs during acceleration. Timing would also cause hesitation during a transition from cruise to power. It would also likely ping under the same conditions. Timing and fuel are where you need to look, though.
