71 R/T Challenger #'s matching
« on: September 05, 2008 - 10:12:15 AM »
I'm in the process of buying a 71 T/A Challenger.#'s matching 383 Auto, ralley dash.  The car has not been restored, but is in excellent condition.  surface rust in trunk, couple small rust holes at bottom of back window.  Dash in excellent condition including pad.  Needs driver seat recovered and needs carpet.  Frame, and entire underside in perfect condition.  The rest of the body is in great shape. does not have original exhaust.

I'm typically a cuda guy, just wondering if anyone had an opinion of value (range) based on the above info?

I don't know Challengers...did these cars not come w/ those emblems on the fenders???  I have seen the fender tags, and it is an r/t.

Looks good and the top isn't ripped up.    Is it a JS car?
You seemed surprised "wow 10-15k??"   Are you paying less or more that?  Probably worth More than that figure.

Yes, we've discussed 17K + 1500 to have trans rebuilt.  I'm doing this largely as a favor, but under the assumption the car will sell for 1-2K more.  I also have shipping $700.  I'm hoping to get honest opinion, I do know the markets have softened.

1 of the fenders, apparently had been damaged and the body work done was bad.  I am getting a replacement fender for that from the seller.  Maybe it was the side w/ the emblems???

We have agreed based on values being more in the low 20's.

So Needless to say if the market's at 10-15K, I'm not getting such a great deal.

I don't know if it was the angle of the photo or not, but it seems the driver's side front fender is a different color than the door. The R/T emblem is badly misplaced on there too.   :screwy:  Any engine bay shots? I could be wrong, but I don't see you getting more than 20K, if that.   :2cents:

Are you trying to make this a quick flip?  Unless you already have a buyer lined up with an agreed price, I would walk away from it.  With that said, if you are looking to buy it as a project to restore yourself, then 17K might not be a bad price.  Does the car run?  How do the frame rails look?  There are a number of things that could sway the price +/- 2-3K.
