73 challenger foam kit
« on: September 03, 2008 - 06:42:06 PM »
Does anyone make foam kits for the 73 E-body front bucket seats. I am told that Legendary dosn't. I would like to try to find some rather then pay the $250.00 to have somthing custom made and run the risk of having it look like a bloated fish.  :eek4:  THANKS!!

It's custom only.  Only the '70-'71 are reproduced.  I've checked, believe me.

How different are they? Can you make the 70-1 work on a 73?

It might be possible, but the 72-74 foam is attached to the seat frame.  I just had mine redone earlier this year, and the shop built the original foam back up.  That is by far going to be your best bet.  It only cost me $150 per seat, including putting on the new seat covers.

No, they don't make it I got ahold of them this morning.

Ok I need help, can anyone explain why the 73 is diffrent? They said it was mounted to the seat or something. Can anyone explain in newbie terms?

Unfortunately that is exactly the case.  If you don't trust yourself to do the work, any decent interior shop should be able to rebuild the foams that are on there.  What kind of shape are they in now?

The seats are split up in the normal spots and I have seen some crumbling under the seat. I use the seats daily and they are not uncomfortable so I am guessing that maybe they can be saved now that I look at it. if they can glue it up or something. I guess I will just take it down and see what they say.

The shape of the foam and the seat cover patterns are completely different, so the earlier foams won't work.  You can have an interior shop make new ones (the figure of $250 ea. is pretty close to what I was quoted) or add more material if yours can be salvaged.

Would also be a good idea to have them tie all the seat springs together while seats are apart to keep  the springs from sagging.
