External Oiling systems
« on: September 10, 2008 - 11:59:48 AM »
I am planning a 440 build and am trying to figure the oiling system out.  I keep hearing that the external route is the best.  So I turn to you guys and ask:

For all of you running external systems what do you run and how is it working for you?  If there was anything you could have done differently what would it have been (part/setup wise)?  What pans are you using (I am running alterktion front suspension)?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure what you have but if you can stay internal it is a ton simpler & cleaner , even up to 1/2 stroke you can internally oil
I used a 12 qt dragster pan with a KB pump & a swinging pick up in my race car , great system but the engine was moved 12" back from stock
4C has an external stystem as well but we had to get creative to fit the lines around the K frame

What I don't like about the external Milodon system I have is that the pivot point for the swinging pickup does not have a seal.  The pump can easily suck air in if the pivot point becomes uncovered.  Also, with the size and length of the pickup lines, everytime I do a cold start, it is several seconds before I see any oil pressure.  i'm not saying I am unhappy with it - it's been in my car for 15 years.

So, it seems that the Milodon systemwould totally rock, if it had an oil accumulator added. That would seem to give Kslush two ideas to ponder, already. I must agree with Chryco that the internal system is a better alternative, under most circumstances. I like the dry-sump idea myself, but do not have the money or time to devote to that kind of modification right now.
