I was talking with this company at a swap meet near my home ( Barrie automotive flea market ) and he told me they ARE working on a 1970 Challenger body for  late this year or early next year. He told me it was going to be around the $15,000 mark.
Whether it happens or not...??? He told me they had purchased a 1970 Challenger and disassembled it to make the tooling from. It's a oversea's deal though?

I won't reveal my source. I trust my source. My source said that there will be no press releases until 2011. He also said that AMD wasn't building all of these little braces and brackets because a few of us need them. The market for these pieces by themselves would be too small to ever profit from them.
Personally, I can see where the Mustang bodies would not be profitable. The only reason the 67's and 68's were popular was because of the Eleanor clones. Now, that fad has passed and no one is screaming for those bodies. You can still find Camaro bodies. I've sold many of mine recently and only kept one 70 SS RS.

The only new crate body that was mentioned to me was the '71 cuda convertible. No a-bodies, no '70 cudas, no hardtops.
As for vin's, I don't have a clue. All I know is the new '32 Ford Coupe body was accepted as a replacement part number by Ford and can be titled as a replacement for the body on a real '32. We've built two so far.
As long as they are not sold as running, driving cars, they're considered either replacement parts or kit cars. They haven't stopped the companies from building the Cobra kit cars have they?  That's a concept that's not too hard to grasp.

With the economy the way that it is, we might see many of the repro companies filing bankruptcy soon anyway. If you need repro parts, you might want to go ahead and get them now. I know that I am. I'm buying the parts for several of my projects right now. In fact, the new grille assembly for my 70 cuda arrived today. I've spent several thousand dollars this year. I have projects to finish.
I've been told by one of the largest repro parts guys that they will not make second batches of many of these cool new parts that you've seen advertised lately. When they're gone...they're gone. Sales are just too slow to be profitable. Guys have screamed for these new parts and now that they're available they're screaming that they're too expensive. Go buy a quarter panel for a 2008 model car. That "limited sales" part for your Cuda will seem cheap. Everybody wants something for nothing.

Anyway, we'll just wait and see on that 71 body. I'm just hoping that I don't get a call from my source screaming at me for saying anything about it.
See you at SEMA. ;D

Would be kind of bittersweet if they made any 70-71 Cuda's or Challenger's. Would be cool in a sense, because there would be more out there. But bad at the same time since there would be more out there! I like it that my car is pretty rare and I like it that way.

At the price they're going to be asking, most of these cars will be hidden away in some rich guy's garage. Heck, 99% of the people around here have never seen any of my cars and I drive them four or five times a year.

An original is always an original   :naughty:

A copy is always going to be a copy   ;)

If they make them  :woo:

I would love to have a new cuda convertible to go with my challenger convertible and not have to worry about messing up an original.
If they make the body they will make all the stuff to make it a complete car all the hard stuff will get cheaper and be available for other e-body’s as well it’s a win win.

I don’t think  100 or so cars will kill the market except to maybe lower some ruff originals people are hoping to make a small fortune with.  :sly:

As for early press or news if I could keep it a secret and wow the market at SEMA with the news it would steal the show and Mopar would be under strict orders not leak it out especially in an email that could easily be forwarded to a magazine or news source.   :misbehaving:

If it’s all rumors maybe someone will see the interest and make it happen.  :blah: :2thumbs:

I sold my 70 Barracuda convertible several years ago and have regretted it ever since. I finished my 70 challenger convertible hemi clone a couple of years ago, but for some reason, it just didn't thrill me. I've wanted a barracuda convert ever since. I have a rusty 70 barracuda, that I've seriously thought about building a full tube frame for and then cutting the top off of. I have most of the parts needed for the convertible conversion. It's just that the rockers in a hardtop are not as thick as the convert rockers so the frame would be an absolute necessity. The frame would eliminate the need for the thick rear wheelhouses as well. There are a lot more differences between a hardtop and a convertible than most people realize. I'm not interested in building an accurate convert. More of a fun driver to run around town in.

I'll bet there are people at Mopar that know about this whole crate body project, but aren't saying anything.
Anyone following the Cuda build that they did on Chop Cut Rebuild?  Coincidence?
I know it was a rebuild, but most of the parts are there for a crate body.
Goodmark admitted on the show that they see opportunities with the e-bodies. Their words...not mine.

If David Hakim doesn't know about it, it isn't around.  And he wouldn't lie about that, when it would be a big boost for Mopar parts.  People are feeding you what you want to hear.  There is no market for 70 Challengers either, there are plenty of them around, there is a small demand, but a much larger demand for 70/71 Cudas, it wouldn't be profitable to do a Challenger body.

I've contacted a few other sources I have around the muscle car business, including some high profile restoration shops, and no one has heard or knows of anyone even thinking about even developing Mopar Bodies until this recession is over.

I've also contacted Dynacorn, they still aren't even in the market to do Mopar bodies.

Golden Leaf Automotive doesn't carry a single Mopar part, why get into it now.  I'll call them tomorrow to see what information they have.

If anyone has any evidence to the contrary and not hearsay, I think this one is DOA.

As far as I'm concerned, this one is doa when the time frame that I was given has come and gone.
