Title Problem
« on: September 21, 2008 - 01:41:46 PM »
I bought a car from a guy awhile back. I paid him cash, and we went to the local BOA to have the tile notarized. I left with the car, and the title thinking all is good. When I took the tile to the DMV to transfer it, they told me that they could not transfer the title, because the previous owner owes back child support !! I guess Arizona just passed a law that does not allow delinquent parents to buy or sale a vehicle. What a SCAM!! I'm not really sure how this is to help the child, and the buyer is the only one getting screwwd. I fixed the problem by making three appearences at the local CSR office. The lady that helped me was very nice, and they were able to release the lein. Lesson learned, even if you have a signed, notarized title, it can still be trumped by our tax funded govt. agencies.

There should be a way to check the title before the fact, to know if there are any leins against it. Just like buying property.

Wow, this stinks.   :22yikes:

Yeah there definitely needs to be something to protect the buyer because that is not right at all.

There are ways to search out a lien on property up here. I would think you could anywhere thats civilized. might cost you a few bucks, I could be wrong, but most gov's have the service I believe.

This thought may not be politically correct, but is an opinion offered. It may be correct? or it may be wrong? It is not designed to appease those needing shelter from the real world.

I have dealt with other CSR agencies in the past. In fact I had 16 years of dealing with them in Iowa. I knew that going into their offices and demanding they fix this was not the way to handle it. I played the part of the victim and it worked. Beware in your state when buying a vehicle, evidently a title in hand is not what it used to be. When banks have a lein attatched for a loan, they keep the title. I have my doubts whether what they(CSR) are doing is actually legal. I am just not sure how all this extra BS is helping the child???

The idea behind the child support thing is that it is a way fir the state to track the guy's money so that nothing is slipped to him under the table.  We got a letter from the state of Texas for a guy that used to do some work with us.  We were told to not pay him, and that any money he was due was to be reported straight to the State AG.

I paid for 16 years. They would take it out of my check every week. CSR would get the money at the end of the month, so all month long I was late until they got paid then it started over the next month. It made it very hard to get a loan for a car or buy a house. My ex remarried and had three more kids, so I guess I was supporting them too. I am glad it's all over. My issue is, why would they put a lean on a car? It really doesn't help anybody, just another way the govt. messes with our lives.
