Well if you think its your distributor, maybe you broke an advance spring , and then again you may have some junk in the air bleeds of your carb. You said you painted your block.Heck, you could possibly have a coil going bad also. The most important part of playing a mechanic is diagnostics. You cant fix what you do not know is broken. Also the v port you want is the one that isnt sucking hard at an idle off the carb. :2thumbs:  See if you hooked your coil up backwards and maybe unplug a tach wire. Having a meter helps also. Get a tech book out and follow along the procedures in all the suggested areas. eliminate one at a time. Don't assume anything. Even if its bad gas turned to turpintine

Yes, the coil will work if installed backwards. It sounds funny, but it's true: if you hook up your coil backwards, it will work backwards! This is not good for the coil, and it doesn't do performance any favors, either. Always hook up your coil with the correct polarity. If in doubt, always remember that the distributor is ground; the wire to the points, or the wire back to the ignition module that goes to "trigger" or "pickup", or otherwise is sent to ground in the module, is ground.
