Heater box compatability.
« on: September 24, 2008 - 10:48:36 AM »
I may have access to a good heater box out of a 1973 'cuda.  My '70's heater box it beyond repair I'm afraid. Is there any difference?

So if I want to go with A/C I need to find an A/C car heater box? Mine is non but I want to upgrade to A/C before next summer.

The first thing you will find it the firewall hole opening is different for a non a/c and a/c car.
You can alway section an a/c piece in. Then the vacuum lines, heater control swap, then the a/c components on the engine side.
It's no small undertaking.

What about those aftermarket A/C kits? Do the "kits" take care of the heater box issue.

Yes, I can't remember which, but everything would be run through the hole where the heater blower motor was.  There is an article on www.moparmusclemagazine.com about it.

Vintage Auto Air and Classic Auto Air both have kits to replace the non-A/C heaterbox with a combination heater and A/C system;

I talked to a tech at Bouchillon Performance the other day, and he told me that they have installed both kits, but prefer the Vintage kit.

Thanks all. I have looked into classicautoair.com. The Supercharger Store recomended them because thier mounts are compatible with the superchargers mounts.
