383 block help

Some help would be great here...I am looking at a 383 block to replace my cracked 318 block.  The description of it is standard bore steel crank.  I guess I have a couple of questions, is there anything else I should expect to get with a block?  What kind of money should I look to spend on it?  I would be chaging a good bit of the parts but would anything off of my 318 be reusable?  Thanks in advance.

this is a bigger swap than you realize I think , Virtually Nothing from a 318 will fit with the 383 , typically , the rad has the inlet & outlet on the opposite sides , no brakets or mounts swap , the tranny will not bolt up , if you have a 904 now you will also need to shorten the driveshaft  ,big project

I misunderstood the ad, he had written it up as a short block.  I can see how all the changes are nessecary with a long block.  So is the 360 the biggest of the short blocks?

You are getting confussed........... 360 is the largest of the Small Blocks.   A 383 is called a low deck  and a 440 is called a Raised Block.   383 and 440 are Big Blocks.

a short block is an engine without heads & intake , a long block has heads & intake no matter if it is a small or big block
