3 speed wipers
« on: October 16, 2008 - 09:35:40 PM »
hi guys, just a quick question regarding 3 speed wipers.
are the speeds:

fast, slow, and intermittent?
or
fast, slow, and really slow?

and do the 3 speeds vary between the 70 units and the 71-74?

i have a two speed switch, with a busted up 3 speed motor and, i believe, 3 speed linkage.
just getting my head around what the best option will be to get fully functional wipers. at the moment they just bang around really fast, hitting the lower windscreen molding every stroke,
and stopping whenever you turn off the switch. doesn't really bother me, but the authorities here in NZ don't like it when it comes to getting a warrant of fitness.

cheers,
aaron

Well, I'll fire the first shot here.   :22yikes:

I believe 3-speed switches are just slow, semi-slow, and fast. This switch was used on the later year E-Bodies, and possibly 71.

The variably speed switch was a 70 thing, and possibly 71. You turn the switch and it runs slow, then you can rotate the switch faster without hearing any more clicks.

It sounds like your problem is a mis-match in components. You can't use a 2-speed switch with a 3-speed motor. I think a simple change of switches will help you. You might want to check E-Bay for a 3-speed switch.
