How does the "woodgrain" insert attatch to the console?

Bill,

Do you mean the after-market woodgrain sticky? The insert has either 4 or 5 screw holes to the console, depending on the year. Are you trying to apply a new decal, or screw the plate to the console? The console should have clips that hold the screws.

If you're considering replacing the walnut laminate veneer, be careful. Most so-called console veneer replacement offerings are material that is extremely thin and within a couple of hot days in the sun it will start to lift off. The only one I know who is doing it correctly is Jim at www.detroitmuscletechnologies.com
He uses the same thick style material like the factory used.

I am trying to screw the insert to the console. Do the screws go through the woodgrain?

Most definatley. Look on the back side and you should see the holes. Did you install the grain?

I see the holes, & I see where they match up to the clips on the console. The grain was already installed when I bought the console, but there weren't any screws. Was the insert supposed to be screwed on before the woodgrain decal went on?

Nope, the screws go through the wood grain. They are a certain type of screw. Nothing special besides the thread type of course and I belive they have a counter sunk type of washer built on them along with the counter sunk screw. Any phillips counter sunk with the right thread size should work. They are not very long either

This is a problem that I am trying to solve with the screws for these consoles. I have not seen anyone offer a screw kit for these consoles.

I am speaking out of turn here, but I recently waded though a buddy on mine stash of 70 and 71+ consoles to document the correct screws for these. I plan on gathering these correct screws and having them all chrome plated just like the originals. The only screws that I cannot offer are the two for the console door cable. They were a custom made screw. Not all consoles had this cable, either. When I have them ready, C-C will be the first place that I will offer them.

Too many projects, so little time!
