Had another one from CA slip by.  Well not so much as slip - it was a private dealer that lowered it's reserve, so I contacted them to see how far off I was as the current high bidder.  I actually got a call from them and they said they were still holding out for low 40's.

Even the salesman admitted that they bought the Viper "in a better market," and were kinda stuck with it now...

The biggest bummer is that - if I didn't mind taking a 98 or 99, I could have one right now - their prices have plummeted.  I'm seeing quite a number of auctions where the seller is just trying to hold out for $32,000 - that's a great price!  I just don't know why the '01's are staying 10,000 bucks above!!  The only difference is ABS - come on, people!

3 years newer would/could be the reason. 3 years in most modern cars is a decent gap (to some), especially when it's that "big" leap into the new millennium, 1998 vs. 2001 reads better to many car buyers. 8 years old is more appealing than 11. That and probably small styling cues and buyer preference.

Ya know I really didn't think about that - 99 verses 2000 - the millenium gap.  There's hardly any difference between the cars except the inclusion of ABS, but just because it's a 21st century car makes it seem like it's worth more...

I chatted with Cody who unfortunately confirmed my suspicion that adding ABS to a non-ABS car is difficult, expensive, and not a total fix - ECU's have to be swapped and such, causing additional problems to surface.

So I either have to ditch the hopes of getting an ABS car, or find an extra 10,000 dollars.  :)
