Our newest addition
« on: October 23, 2008 - 02:20:00 AM »
No, not a new Mopar.  Or a child.   :22yikes:

This is Zoe, our new dog.  She's a shelter dog, a stray.  The shelter estimated she's about two years old, a beagle mix (I'm thinking there's some chihuahua in there, because she's very small and slender.)  She came home last night and has settled right in.  The cats are still pretty wary, but she's mostly ignoring them, which was my primary concern.  She's the first dog I've had since I was 2.  She's really my son's dog, something he's been begging for for about 7 years, but I wanted to wait until he showed enough sense of responsibility to care for a dog.  Expensive though - almost $500 in adoption costs, supplies and new construction to build a new fence.

I'm looking forward to a nice house so I can get a good-sized dog.  I've always wanted a German Sheppard but I'm thinking they might be a smidge too big.  I'm a big shelter kinda guy - I like rescuing animals.  We have two cats which we've spent $0 to adopt - just vet bills for shots and check-ups and such.

Congrats on the new family member!

Greg:
Congratulations!  That's a great addition to the family, and good on you to adopt a shelter dog.  Sure looks like a Beagle to me - That will be a great dog!

We just adopted a puppy out of a bad situation about a month ago.  He was almost named 'Hemi', but I was afraid if he was a bad dog, that I would always have a bad association with that word!  The picture below is about the only one I have, because he won't hold still long enough...

Looks like a nice dog, Greg.
Carl, yours looks like it'll be mischievous, but a cute little puppy, nonetheless.  I'm surprised April hasn't commented in this thread yet.
Jeff, German Shepherds are great dogs, but yes they can be on the big side.  We have a German Shepherd/Yellow Labrador mix and his neck is about to my waist when he's standing (I'm ~6 feet tall).  He's been a heck of a dog the past four/five years we've owned him, though.  He's very protective of our property (scares away ANYTHING from our yard..birds, rabbits, bears, you name it) and lets my nephew (and now niece) climb all over him without getting even slightly bothered.  Only thing is he snores really loud, lol. :smilielol:
