In over my head newb Rochester NY
« on: October 29, 2008 - 09:35:06 PM »
Hi everyone, Chris from Rochester, Have posted a few things before but never introduced myself. Title speaks for itself, started tearing apart my first car ( 73 challenger bought in 89 ) with a bunch of friends and it snowballed. Most items were never labeled and all my car buddies have either quit the hobby or moved away. So far the car has recieved new quarters, smoothed firewall, new rear valance, undercarriage has been finished in rust encapsulator and extreme chassis black. All suspension parts are coming back from powerdercoat and I can finally start bolting parts back on the car after 4 years being apart. I am a little intimidated about putting the susp back in as this car will see track time and I'm the idiot putting it together. Engine is almost finished, a 416 with 10.5 comp hyd roller, 727 tranny and 3.91 rear. The color is up in the air, but wanting something in a copper/orange, most likely the new billet specialties street lite wheels. I will be asking many ? and some (most) may seem foolish, just please bear with me, thanks. Hopefully the pics work and will update on susp.

Welcome Chris!

One thing caught up my attention on the firewall pic. Have you accidentally closed the water drain passage for the cowl while smoothing out the firewall? I circled the spot where there should be some kind of drain passage to the inside of the cowl.

Welcome Chris!

It can seem daunting, but not if you look at it as one small job at a time. Ask plenty of questions! Some guys squirrel away diagrams too, so don't be afraid to ask for pictures or prints! A picture is worth a thousand words. Good luck!

Welcome Chris. There are a few of here from Rochester if you need any help with anything. Give a shout if you need help. You may want to start by sitting down and mapping out a project plan. Set small goals with dates, and budget, and try to stick to that plan. Don't bury yourself in the car, work at a comfortable pace or you can lose interest in it.
