Bucket seat ID ??
« on: October 27, 2008 - 10:38:37 AM »
Hi, I have a '72 Challenger Rallye and was thinking of re-covering the front seats this winter as a seam is splitting on the drivers side.  After looking at the reference books at home and the seats in the car, I'm confused and know the members here can 'square me away'.

The seats currently in the car have a soft back (no plastic panel) and the back release in the rear at the bottom, not on the side.  Given these facts, it looks like the car has '73 or '74 seats.  From the catalogs, it appears that '72 seat backs are shorter and rounder (my description) than the taller and thiner '73 & '74's. I think mine favors the taller style.  Clear as mud??

Any help is greatly appreciated to help figure out what I have and what I need.

Regards,

Ranger

It does sound like you have 73-74 style seats and from what I have gathered about seats....anything is possible and nothing is set in stone, so they may be correct for your car. The 72 seats look the same as 70-71 seats, but are not 100% interchangeable. The seats for 70-71 have a different spring/foam layout, but can be made to work for 72s......if you want to change to '72' seats then it will be a lot easier if you can find a set of 72s.

BTW, welcome to the board :2thumbs:

These are the only pics I have currently available.  The more I look and read, the more I think they are '73 buckets.  What say you??

Thanks for the help and regards,

Thanks 'farmer - I looked for a build sheet when I bought it a few years back under the back seat (that's where I found it on my last '72) without any luck.  I'll give the front a try though.  I posted more pics in my intro in the 'intro thread' at the top.......... FYI
