That was part of an option package. I'm not sure of the option code.

The parts book shows it to be 2 pieces 7-26-14 or pn 2998228 and 2998229.  Is it std or optional and if so what would the fender tag show if you got this trim?

You are correct. The trim was 2-piece in 70 and 71. It is not standard. From my experience, most cars don't have it. I added it to mine because I liked the look.  I have a feeling the code for this wouldn't be on your fender tag, just on your build sheet. That's my best guess.

Its called stone shield molding.... I think its part of another trim package like Mike said, not just by itself... It may come with the belt molding package...

This was an SE trim part package piece and was a 2 piece trim for 70 only.  71 through to 74 had the 1 piece as an option.

It was all factory when I found the car... you can see where they taped off everything when they painted it once....

It may of been on your A78 package Wally.  Just not listed , but very well could of been included
