Need Help Tracking Down a Key

Hey guys, my Cuda has been missing some parts for the glove box which I have finally rounded everything up.. except for a key. I knowingly bought a lock from a very helpful guy without the key thinking I could track down a key, or ask a locksmith to make one for me. Unfortunately for me I have been unable to do either... Do you guys know where I might be able to track down a key for the glove box lock? The lock cylinder has a serial number on it that I assume would be instrumental to tracking down a key...

You should ba able to take your trunk key and the glovebox lock to any locksmith and have them re-key accordingly. No serial numbers required...

Sorry to sound like an idiot, but is the trunk key and glove box key similar? I guess I need to keep calling locksmiths in town, so far they have all claimed that they are unable to reproduce a key

this is stupid simple , the lock can be disassembled once it is picked to a locked position , I usually match it back to the trunk by changing the tumblers .
I could do it for you if you wanted to sent it to me or any Automotive locksmith should be able to do this easily .

   If you're comfortable working with really small parts and springs it's not too hard to do.  I've re keyed a few door and trunk locks.  It takes patience but is very doable.

I had this done for my 73 duster.  Cost me 15 bucks.  Keyed it to match the trunk lock.

Any automotive lock smith should know how to do this.
You will have to remove your lock tumblers from the car.

I did mine as well.....just match the small, med, long tumblers to the heights of the ridges of the key you want to use......

I did one better. Took my trunk lock to the locksmith, he looked at the serial # on it,scanned a book. Five minutes later and five bucks and I had a new key that works great.

My locksmith can make a key for that in 5 minutes. He inserts an uncut key in with a vice grips clamped on the end and starts twisting. He looks at the marks left behind and starts cutting. After doing this several times, the key turns the lock. It would be easier to match your trunk and console to your glove compartment due to the type of lock that it used.

I agree with 72cudaman. The tag that comes with keys and that lock number can be accessed by the locksmith's computer and tell him exactly the cut on the key.  Some might even mail it to you.

Excellent, thanks for the tips guys. I am either going to try and reset the tumblers myself or have chryco do it for me since not a single locksmith in my area was willing (or able, I guess) to cut a key, which I find slightly hard to believe, but whatever.
