Pistol Grip Swap NEED HELP!

Hey guys, Im trying to swap out this ugly after market purple Pistol Grip thats in my Cuda for the factory hurst unit. I thought it'd be like any other shifter with 2 easy access blots, but I see something very different. How do I swap it out, any tricks??? Thanks

Is it a Harms custom pistol grip or a Hurst/B&M promatic style one?
If it's a factory style shifter with custom grips why not just buy new wooden grips?

I didnt just change the grips because I'm a purist, and needed to have the HUSRT logo on the side. I already got the part, I just need to know how to take out the old shifter and get the new one in there. I saw a similar post where Alaskan TA posted a diagram, but that attachment is no longer up.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you're a purist, why are you putting a Hemi into a Six Pack car?

Ha you're right, I've just always wanted a hemicuda, and I figured I could have more fun with a built hemi in the car and keep the V code motor on an engine stand in my garage, but the more I drive my car the way it is the more I love whats in it, so it will probably stay a 440-6 car.

If it's an original 70 pistolgrip shifter, there are no bolts in those shifter handles to hold the handle on. You have to take a feeler gage and slide it down alongside the handle and there is a tab that will be pushed back by the feeler gage and release the handle from the mechanism. If you ever read the car and driver piece about when they road tested an original AAR back in the day, during some thrashing on a road course, they pulled the shifter handle out of the mech. Later hurst handles went to the two bolts to eliminate that problem.

Slide a .010 feeler gauge down the side of the handle and just pull out.

I tried the feeler gauge, and it still wont budge. I tried both sides of the shifter too. What am I doing wrong?

Keep trying, you gotta get the feel for it, and put upward pressure on the handle while you have the feeler gage in there. Look at the new handle, you can see the tab on the handle that the tang engages to retain the handle, that can give you an idea of how it works.

Yup, mine was stucj in there pretty good too, took a lot of force to get it out.
