Engine is tipped down on passengers side????
« on: May 19, 2009 - 12:17:04 AM »
Just got my car home Yesterday and noticed the air-cleaner was rubbing on the insulation pad on the hood.  :clueless: I sat down infront of the car and looked at the engine, over the rad support and rad and the engine is sitting 3/4" to 1" lower on the passengers side. I had it at a garage ,up on the hoist and everything under neath seemed ok. The motor mounts seem ok, I spoke to the previous owner, and he said he put in new mounts when he did the car. The fan is centered in the shroud and the rad is installed in it`s proper holes. Anyone heard of this before? My car is a `70 383 SE Challenger. :1zhelp:    KEN    northern  :canada:

Hello Ken, this is a common problem when people do not take enough care or attention to detail buddy.  Easy solution as long as the mounts are not broken of course, is to loosen the lower mount nuts on the engine mounts on both sides where they meet with the K frame and simply put a jack under the side of the engine you wish to make th level and proceed to jack in small doses. Drop engine back in position by only moving it is small doses like i said and you should be able to level the engine.  Let us know if this makes sense and how you go old mate. :2thumbs:

I think Ken is probably on the right track. The K frame mounts have larger holes than the bolts that go through them, and the motor mounts can actually slide up and down on the K frame mounts. As he said, if you loosen the two bolts and jack up the passenger's side of the engine it will come up and the driver's side should drop down a little. What you would actually be doing is rotating the whole engine a little in a clockwise direction. The fan should also stay centered in the shroud too.

hard to tell really , he swapped out the mounts & the bottom of the engine seems to sit level while the top still looks off
