Sway bar???
« on: November 10, 2008 - 03:05:48 PM »
I am putting together a '72 Challenger for a friend and he gave me what he believes to be both front and rear sway bars for the car.  The rear one is the correct one with the correct mounting brackets.  The front one I believe is not the correct one.  When getting ready to purchase the new sway bar mount bushings it listed either a 7/8" bar or 15/16" bar.  I measured the bar I have and it is only 5/8".  I ordered the 7/8" bushings and they are WAY too big!  Do I have the wrong bar? :clueless:

Thanks!

Jeff

Sounds like it to me, I've never heard of a 5/8" swaybar for the front of an E body!

:grinno:   The front sway bar is definitely thicker than 5/8".

7/8  or  15/16  would be the right size

5/8 is a wee little guy. As mentioned, do you have front lower control arms that have the bracket for the stock sway?

Yes, the lower control arms have the mounting holes for the end links and these brackets were in a box of the project pieces.

I am just puzzled as to what kind of vehicle the bar that I have goes to.  The guy that owns this car also owns four 67-69 Camaros and has a boat load of parts all over his garage so possibly he sent one for one of the camaros.  Who knows?   :dunno:

I am going to go out later and see how the bar fits under the chassis.

The bar I have is definitely the wrong bar for this car!  I put it under the chassis and the ends almost hit both wheels, within about an inch on each side.  I guess I will need him to see if the owner has the correct bar, or we will need to find one somewhere.

Thanks for the help!
