Chrysler as a company SUCKS!
« on: November 05, 2008 - 10:08:50 AM »
I have bought a lot of new cars over the years, quite a few of them Chryslers. I have also leased a few, but never through Chrysler. I never had a problem with any other company I leased a car through.
Our last car (2006 Pacifica) was the first car that I ever leased from Chrysler, and I gotta say, I am glad they are out of leasing, because I would NEVER lease anything from them again.

Our lease was due to end on Sept 29. Around the 20th, I went to the local dealer, and asked what the steps are. He said that I should have gotten  some termination papers from Chrysler, including a mileage statement, damage assessment forms, etc. I got nothing. So I called Chrysler customer service. First thing is some Indian woman answers the phone. I explain the situation to her, and she says that she is the billing dept, and she will connect me to the right person. Five tries later, I am starting to lose it, so they finally manage to connect me to someone in leasing.

I explain the situation again. Lady says "No problem, I'll fax the forms to your dealer within the hour". I call the dealer several hours later. They got nothing. I call Chrysler back, go through the Indian bullcrap again, finally get to someone in Chrysler. A guy this time. He says "We'll get those sent out". I check with the dealer the next day. Still nothing.

I call the dealer to explain. The dealer says he will call. I check back the next day. still nothing.

This goes on until the 26th, when I finally say, "Hey, I'm turning the car in. It's your problem". The dealer checks out the car, and accepts it.

Around October 10th, I get a nasty letter from Chrysler, saying that I am in default of my lease because I have never turned the car in, and may have to pay penalties. Now, I'm pi55ed!. The letter includes a number I am supposed to call, so I call it. "Sorry, this number is no longer in service!"  ARRGGHHHHH!

So I go to the dealer and raise He11. He gives me an inside number for Chrysler leasing. I call, and after 20+ questions, I finally get to someone in leasing. I'm pi55ed, and I let them know it. The guy says that their records show that the car was not turned in. I give him the name and number of the sales manager at the dealership because that;s who I turned it in to.

The next day, I get a call from a lady in leasing, wanting to know why the car has not been turned in. I tell her that it was turned on on the 26th, and that I just went through this with someone else in her department. Then I gave her the name and number of the sales manager.

The next day, I get a call from a guy in leasing wanting to know if I'm going to keep the car because it has not been turned in. I explode and tell him that his company is ful of some of the most witless, hairbrained idiots I have ever dealt with. Then I give him the name and number of the sales manager.

Finally, I dont hear anything from anyone, so I after a couple of days, I go to the dealership and talk to the sales manager. He said it was finally straightened out, and the car was picked up, and that I would be getting a final bill form Chrysler for their "Lease dispostion fee of $400+". No one ever told me about this when I initially leased the car, and I have never paid this type of fee to any other car company that I have leased from.

Two days ago, I get the final bill. Okay fine.

Last night, I get a call from a collection agency wanting to know why I havent paid the final bill yet. I told him "Look, I got the bill yesterday. Dont I have 30 days to pay it?"
He says "Yes."
I say "Okay, then it will be paid within 30 days."
He says "Okay, I'll mark that down, but its not going to stop the collection calls."

I hung up on him, and have decided that I will NEVER buy another new Chrysler product.

I'm starting to think they deserve to go under if they treat their customers like this.

Sorry, but I just had to vent.    :villagers:

tough issue, but let me offer some advise.

Keep every and event and conversation in date order in some file, either online or written.

Keep all phone numbers good and bad you have received and called.

Keep names of everyone you talk to and their position

and get the full information from the collection agency. DO NOT pay the collection agency. The bill was generated from Chrysler and they are the ones you need to deal with and make sure before you pay any final payment, you get in writing that this bill was paid in full and it was paid on time.  This is also the one you need to pay. If it was turned over to a collection account, the damage is done, they have you information and your credit report will show something was turned over to a collection agency.   And if you pay the collection agnecy you will have a piad collection on your credit report. You want no mention of collection on your report at all, and there should not be any.  After you have all this information and you have paid the correct amount to Chrysler, if you continue to get calls from the collection agnency and you have given them proof you paid, you will then be able to sue in small cliams court for damages, you will get as little as $500 for your trouble and much more if you credit is damaged and you paid the bill. Hope this helps

The local Chrysler dealer in my province closed down but they were f#%ken useless.
But, so was a local Ford dealer, worse than Chrysler actually. Happens to any brand, it depends on who's working there.  :2cents:

Uh, I dunno that you should NOT pay the collection agency.  They're called collection agencies for a reason.  In most cases, the Collection Agency assumes the debt.  So if you send payment to Chrysler, Chrysler will most likely NOT inform the collection agency, who will continue to bother you until they receive confirmation from Chrysler.  You're just opening yourself up to even more troubles.

Pay the collection agency and be done with it.

I respectfully disagree. It should have never went to collection, if it happened exactly as he said it did. Right now if he does nothing, there is a collection account on his credit. If he pays the collection agency, it is a paid collection, which is not as bad, but it is not good either. If he pays Chyrsler with a written agreement to remove any negative information off all 3 of his credit reports, he is covered. The collection agnecy usually works off a commission so Chyrsler gets maybe 50%, I am sure they will correct the mistake and take 100% of what is owed to them. And you are right they assume the responsibility of collecting the debt, but not the debt itself. But my point is it never was a collection account debt to begin with.

Man that blows!!!!!! Sorry are going through such a mess. I hate those Indian call centers with a passion. It is bad enough to get shuffled around from department to department but when you are trying to figure out wtf each person is saying? Well lets just say I go from 0-60 and lose it much quicker when I am trying to resolve a problem with someone who does not speak my language.

Not a lease but I had a bad experience with a ford dealer and ford corp. I may never buy another new anything! Now that the auto makers sales have hit bottom maybe they will care alittle more about the customers.

It happened here in Australia to me many years ago. I bought a brand new Valiant from the dealer, I told the salesman I would be paying cash, he said OK. When I went to pick up the car I was usured into the finance section, asaked how I was going to pay for the car. I produced a bank check for the final amount, he accepted it reluntantly and I got my keys.
A couple of weeks later my registration papers arrived saying that Chrysler Credit owned the car, I fronted them and got some lame excuse and they wanted me to pay monies to discharge the finance and so it went on. I didn't pay any extra and all they did was scribble out with biro the words Chrysler Credit owned the car. These finance people think they own you and your property.   :villagers:
