Circuit City has always been a poorly-managed, short-sighted company.

I think it's just the tip of the iceberg. There will be more before the year's out.

I was in Anniston Alabama yesterday and they had people standing with sale signs on every corner . The read.  Going out of business, everything is on sale.

Visiting a Circuit City 20+ years ago used to be a great time.  But for the last five years its been like visiting an electronic morgue next to Best Buy or other stores; small video and music sections, much smaller equipment selection at same or higher cost, dirty, ruse and inattentive workers...  I'm amazed they held out as long as they did.

I went in one once. It was kinda like a flea market store.
Once we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope & Johnny Cash. Now we have Obama, No Hope and No Cash!

JS27N0B,

The second article was current, the point is, the first brought on the second.

Guys,

The point is that 1 1/2 years ago, they replaced all the loyal employees with "a bunch of high school J-offs ".  Now they are going bankrupt.

No product selection (only an entire aisle of the most popular product), so-so prices, rude and unhelpful staff, much better competition (Fry's, Best Buy, MicroCenter, etc.).  This will get blamed on the economy, but it should have happened long ago.  The only effect the economy had on this is it kept them in business longer than otherwise.

Kmart did the same thing here in Plainfield, IL, although I doubt that Kmart put up the building.  The developer was probably left holding the bag.
