Set time on Permatex No.2 ?

I've read everything I can find on Permatex no.2 and I can't find a set or dry time, I know it doesn't harden but it does firm up. anyone know how long from experience you should wait before starting a car you used it on for an intake manifold for example?

ithink the flash time is approx 1/2 hr but to cure through could be as much as 2 days

I'd probably wait a good 12 hours before running the engine.

Above is a link for the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for pematex No. 2. It states the application is useable after 4 hours and complete cure after 24 hours. For complete info, just click on the link. Hope this helps. Since it is pretty much impervious to fluids like oil and gas, I've used it and run the engine after waiting only a few hours with no leaks!! 2/3 of the battle is in properly prepping the suface. You can have the best sealant/gasket in the world but it won't seal worth a hoot over a piece of old gasket, raised metal or deep gouges!! Good luck!!

I have seen it still be soft after 24 hrs , if it is thick wait an extra day

No 2 peramtex is the non-hardening type.

You trying to use this stuff on your intake gaskets?

Two engine builders have told me it's the best thing there is if you're trying to seal a tough intake. I had my manifold machined but after the fight I've had with it I want the best sealer I can find. hylomar is supposed to be good but it won't seal as big of gap as permatex 2, if someone has a better gap sealer I'm open to ideas, but this is the best gas proof one I'm aware of.

Hylomar is what I was going to suggest. After I milled 65 thou of the heads on my 392 the intake bolt holes wouldn't line up with the stock intake gaskets in place. I went to the parts store and got a roll of the thinnest gasket paper they had and cut out some new intake gaskets and used Hylomar to seal them. I didn't want to cut on the intake or take the heads back off to cut them so that was the best solution. The manifold bolted right up and I've never had a leak.
