Question for our Canadian friends
« on: November 05, 2008 - 11:48:39 PM »
I need to order many body parts (inner fenders, firewall, frame rails, etc). I'm curious how my fellow canadians would choose to get my hands on all these items. Most smaller items, I drive across the boarder and pick them up, but that doesn't help, as these items need to be shipped anyways. Just curious if there's a way to save some $. thanks.

Where do you live?

I use "Fenders and body parts" in Calgary, they are a distributor for Cross Canada Auto Parts. (http://www.crosscanadaparts.com/)  They distribute goodmark parts.
Typically the cost is less than the US MSRP without having to pay shipping costs.

There are a number of other sources in town for AMD and year one parts.

I think it really depends on where you live.

I had all my parts shipped to a place in Niagra Falls NY to save on the shipping costs.  I drove down (bout an hour each way) and picked them up, and drove them over the border myself.  The place charged me a few bucks a box, but even with the multiple trips and duties and such, I saved a ton.  I plan on doing the same for some more stuff this winter.  If you need bigger parts you would obviously need a truck for this to work.

I live in Manitoba and use a parcel pick up just across the US boarder- I pay 5 bucks a parcel. I try to order many parts from one place to combine shipping and I never us UPS as they are way too expensive. US post is great and Fedex is reasonable

I've used National Moparts in Ontario but recently after inquiring I found I could get a good deal  from the local Chrysler Dealership.  Either that or Cross Canada Auto Parts. (http://www.crosscanadaparts.com/)

Like DarkHawk said,  If you talk to a local dealer there prices are reasonable.  Tell them what your project is and they will lower the markup.  In the past I bought many parts from them and they were cheaper than aftermarket with the discount they gave. Do you guys know who makes the dealers body panels?  & are all Cross Canada panels Goodmark thanks.

Dealers parts are Goodmark , they quoted me over $300 more on the 1/4s than Dave at Roseville , even through my account at Mopar

I used National Moparts for my last 1/4 panel purchase  (AMD quarter).  I found the AMD parts better than the Goodmark parts I had purchsed before but they were also more expensive.  It was for a Roadrunner so it was BIG and with shipping considered, their price was good.

I ordered a rear valance for my '69 Charger from AMD. Cost me $210. A month after I got it, I got a custom charges bill from Fedex for $91!!!!!!!! That's almost half of what the part cost. I think next time I order from AMD, I'll be getting the parts sent to a place in Seattle and I'll go pick them up instead of dealing with the customs BS.

I also use a place on the island here (Vancouver Island) called Pensiula Restoration Parts. There about 45 mins away and stock anything I need for my cars.
