Why not keep Off topics but make it a non post count area. That way it would be treated more like a chat room.

A place to relax and chat with the word games and such

:dunno:  after awhile, who looks at post counts?    of topics works for lots of everything.    How about a race section :burnout:

Why eliminate the Off Topic section?   :dunno:  Seems to me to be a better idea to stop posting threads about issues that involve politics/politicians/abortion/gun control/racial/gay rights....etc....   There are thousands of things non car related that qualify as off topic while at the same time they are non controversial.  Let's try that approach instead of eliminating the entire section.....     :grinyes:

I agree.

Ya know. . I haven't said anything here as I though it wasn't serious  . . .  :screwy:  Are you kidding??  :eek7:  Where am I going to put all the off topic stuff??  Unless you plan on adding something to replace that section or break it down further . . like a off topic car related and a off topic non car related area.

Other than that . . .  :grinno:

How about a Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off topic section.

:roflsmiley:

I like the existing off topic section myself.

Now, if only folks would start posting in the right sections, it would save the moderators a lot of time.  ;)

I think the point that PG was trying to get across was not that we should do away with the off topic section, but to highlight that it is extremely tightly moderated and debate threads of any kind always seem to get locked.

Aside from that, I notice the number of locked threads in the "site questions and suggestions" area has become disproportionately high over the last few months. Just my 2 cents.
